In September 2016 Harm Jan started his own choir: Papaya. Papaya stands for fresh, fruity and exotic. This choir consists of eleven singers (three male, eight female). Papaya sings exclusively music that is composed or arranged by Harm Jan. Therefore, the repertoire is very diverse: from classical to jazz, from gospel to pop and from Tibetan to improvised music. Papaya likes to sing a cappella and is always looking for some kind of interaction with their audience.

Saturday, the 20th of May, was the first official performance of Papaya. Together with the Gelders Fanfare Orkest they performed the première of Of Preachers and Presidents, a new piece of Harm Jan, especcially composed for the final exam conducting of Erik Rozendom. One day later, Papaya sang during a special service in the Bethelkerk of Zwijndrecht NL.
